I want to show you how easy it is to use the sales order functionality in Dynamics 365 Business Central. The process orders that have assembled to order items on them, these are also considered sales kits as well, they’re items that are put together right at the time of shipment, so let’s take a look at it.

Assemble to Order Items

Here’s my sales order. I’ve got this conference bundle here. This is an assembly that includes a number of furniture items in it. This is already on the sales order so it’s already put together, the assembly order to create this bundle. We can take a look at the symbol to order lines right from the sales order, and we see that we’ve got two items plus some insulation labor. We can do here is we can accept the bundle the way that it is, which I’m going to do, or I could add some additional items if the customer wanted an additional item for this and I wanted to give it to them in this pricing, I could do that. I could also swap out items, so it’s very flexible and this is basically all done in the context of a particular sales order.

Viewing the Sales Order

We can see the assembly order here. This is the assembly order that was automatically created when I entered the bundle on that sales order. You can see this is an assembly order. It’s got a starting time and ending time. It’s got quantities built right into it, and you can manage it process at this level if you want to send this out to your Warehouse so they have directions on what they need to put together or you don’t need to. You can spend the entire time in the sales order, everything will be done, it will create the assembly order, and then when you ship it, it will finalize and post the assembler order, so I’m just going to go ahead and post this, and what it will do is it’ll show the sale for this assembly item, but it will also relieve the component items from inventory. Let’s go ahead and post that. You can see it’s closing the assembly order, and we’re done. That’s the entire process.

Managing Items on Sales Order

Now let’s take a look at some of the setup that I used to make this demo. First of all, let’s look at the assembly item. This is the main item; it’s a regular item in my inventory. If I scroll down a little bit to replenish this item, it’s going to be an assembly, plus it’s going to be an assembled to order assembly, and I can look at the bill of materials or the assembly itself. So, this is the bill materials for this assembly that I can put directly on a sales order. This has been a quick look at how you can use sales orders within Dynamics 365 Business Central to sell and ship assemble to order items or sales kits. We looked at how Business Central can automatically create and post the related assembly transactions for a sales order item and we looked at a simple setup of how I can set up an item and make an assembly to order item.
