Businesses who are holding onto the inefficiencies of legacy systems is encouraging its employees to continue the “silo mentality.” The move to a Cloud ERP may provide the only path to breaking the log-jam of non-integrated applications and vertical data. This article will show how a Cloud ERP solution, such as Dynamics 365 using the Azure cloud services, could help get rid of the leading issue in the workplace, “silo.”
What does the “silo mentality” mean?
The silo mentality can be defined as when certain department(s) or sector(s) do not want to collaborate or share information with others from the same organization. This causes a decrease in efficiency, which leads to lower profits; most importantly it decreases social capital and complicate the decision-making process.
IDG: Executives are over-reliant on legacy systems.
According to an IDG survey of corporate executives, close to 40% of those contacted said their IT departments “are under pressure” to move services to the Cloud. Still, a large percentage (40%) of execs admit they are over-reliant on their on-premise systems, particularly those deemed “mission-critical to migrate to the Cloud.”
Yet, surprisingly, as a short-term solution, companies often continue “piling more services on top of one another,” notes Forbes, without solving the overlying need to migrate apps, data, and infrastructure to the Cloud, such as the TMC Azure Cloud (FREE trial).
Forbes: Break the “silo mentality.”
What’s needed, says Forbes, is leadership within the organization to break away from the “silo mentality.”
“It is the responsibility of the leadership team to recognize this and rise above to create effective, long-term solutions that are scalable, executable, and realistic.”
In addition, Inc. states, “Departmental silos are seen as a growing pain for most organizations of all sizes. It is the duty of the executive leaders and management to prepare and equip their teams with the proper mind-set and vision to break down these destructive organizational barriers.” Executive leaders and management can start off with equipping their teams with a Cloud ERP solution, such as an ERP software on Azure.
Companies with on-premise applications such as ERP and CRM software should take Gartner’s advice when it comes to dealing with existing systems, which is to look at a Cloud ERP for an application strategy:
“The starting point is replacing older software with SaaS models. However, you must consider scenarios where you purchase or build software for deployment on private or public IaaS and PaaS services.”
TMC Azure Cloud: Over 100 services beyond SaaS!
Moving to the TMC Azure Cloud, provides users with over 100 or more services beyond SaaS, such as Microsoft Dynamics 365 for ERP, business intelligence, infrastructure, compute and database services. Moreover, Azure clients can also create applications in the Cloud while still performing tests on their mobile devices—and PCs—with full, real-time analytics.
