Discover five new Power BI project reports in Dynamics 365 Business Central 2025 Release Wave 2. Learn how to access, share, and analyze projects with ease.

I want to show you some new Power BI reports that Microsoft has added to Projects in Dynamics 365 Business Central. These were recently released in the 2025 Release Wave 2. Let’s take a look at them. We’re going to focus on five reports. They’re really nice reports, and there are some additional ones as well, but I really like these, so we’ll highlight them here.

Accessing the Reports

Using Power BI from PowerBI.com

First, I like to use Power BI from powerbi.com. It offers more functionality and also enables me to easily share these reports with other people in my organization. However, all of these reports that we’ll look at are also available right inside the Business Central interface.

Report 1: Project Overview

This is a nice overview report that gives you a complete view of all your projects in Business Central. At the top, I’ve got some useful KPIs you can see right here. These give me an instant look at what’s happening in my organization as far as projects are concerned.

If I want to drill down into other aspects, I can do that here. I’ve got different project managers listed, and I can click on those. All the filters are on the right-hand side, which is great for end users because they can really focus on the information they want to see.

One thing I really like about Power BI is that I can share these reports with other people in my organization without giving them access to the ERP system. It’s a lot easier for them, and I can maintain ERP security.

Report 2: Project Task

As with other Power BI reports, I can click on a particular project, and the other graphs respond to that selection. There’s also a Project Task report that lists all the different tasks within the projects in my system.

This gives me a broad view, and I can drill through to get more details on a specific line item. For example, in the Project Planning Lines, I can see more detailed information in this report. I can easily go back, and if I want, I can export the data to Excel. It’s simple—just click Export, and you can analyze it in Excel. It even moves it into Excel with some formatting already done for you.

This makes it a very handy report for end users. It allows them to search for exactly the information they need, export it, and modify the reports as needed. The flexibility is excellent.

Report 3: Project Profitability Dashboard

Here’s another dashboard report with different elements displayed together. Again, filters are on the right, and I can drill down to get additional information on specific items. It’s easy to go deeper and retrieve the data you need.

This is an excellent way to analyze project profitability. If you maintain budgets for your projects—which you probably do—this report gives you a simple way to check your performance against those budgets and review profitability.

Report 4: Project Performance to Budget

This report helps you compare actual results to your planned budgets. It allows you to identify variances quickly and take corrective action where needed.

Report 5: Project Timeline

Finally, I like the Project Timeline report. It’s a graphical representation of the timeline that’s built into Projects in Business Central. You can see individual projects and their associated tasks all in one place. This provides a convenient way to review the project timeline without having to look at each individual task and its dates separately.
