TL;DR
The 2025 Release Wave 1 of Dynamics 365 Business Central includes Excel enhancements that make it easier to export, edit, and analyze data. New features include improved list analysis export to Excel, the ability to edit sales price lists directly in Excel, and financial reports with built-in slicers for faster data filtering.
Introduction
I want to show you some recent Excel enhancements in Dynamics 365 Business Central.
We’re going to look at:
-
The ability to pull list analysis data from Business Central and send it to Excel.
-
New functionality to edit sales price lists in Excel.
-
Financial reports in Excel with slicers that make it a lot easier to analyze the data the way you want to.
Exporting List Analysis Data to Excel
Viewing and Analyzing Data in Business Central
This is a list page in Business Central with all my customers in the system. There’s functionality that’s been around for a while that lets me analyze this data in different ways—it’s called Analyze.
Let’s click on this. These tabs at the top are user-defined. I can have different values, fields, and columns. It’s an easy way to analyze data in Business Central.
There’s also the functionality to put it in pivot mode. Let’s take a look at this analysis here. I’ve got all my customers, key information about the work they’ve done with me, and what I can do is easily export it to Excel.
Exporting to Excel in Pivot Mode
All I need to do is drill down on this tab and choose Open in Excel. It will take the information in this format and put it in Excel.
This is a nice way to look at the data—everything is organized exactly like it looks in the analysis page, and I can use different columns of data in my analysis sheet.
If I take it out of pivot mode, it becomes more interactive. I can drill down to get information on a specific customer, and I can export that to Excel as well. But without pivot mode, the export can look messy—lots of duplicate numbers and less organization—so for this type of data, pivot mode makes more sense.
Example with Items in Pivot Mode
In the Items list, I have an analysis list in pivot mode with:
-
Price groups listed across the top
-
Item groups listed down the left
-
Quantities currently on hand
It allows me to drill down for more detail. I can also export this to Excel for further analysis or to share with coworkers.
Editing Sales Price Lists in Excel
New in 2025 Release Wave 1
Now, there’s brand-new functionality that lets you edit sales price lists directly in Excel.
These are my current sales price lists. They let me manage separate prices by customer, customer group, or just as a simpler alternative to editing item cards.
I have three here:
-
Default price list (from the item cards)
-
Retail
-
Wholesale
Editing in Excel
Here’s what’s new: I can open a sales price list and choose Edit in Excel.
When I do that, the data connector opens on the right side, and Excel fills with all the line data from that sales price list.
Now I can:
-
Change individual prices
-
Increase all prices by a percentage
-
Use any Excel functionality to adjust prices in bulk
When I’m done, I simply Publish back to Business Central. This works the same as other Edit in Excel functions in BC, but it’s now available for sales price lists—a feature a lot of people have been asking for.
Financial Reports in Excel with Slicers
Built-In Filters for Faster Analysis
Business Central now has a number of preview Excel financial reports. The big improvement? They’ve added slicers to these reports so you can filter the data more easily.
Here’s an example: I download a Trial Balance report. Once I enable the content and refresh the data in Microsoft 365, I have my trial balance with all the accounts and amounts for the selected period.
The slicers allow me to filter by:
-
Department code
-
Customer group
-
Account category
-
Account subcategory
For example, I can filter to just Assets, or further narrow it to Inventory. The spreadsheet updates instantly.
I can even double-click for more detail, and it will show the breakdown by dimension codes.
Conclusion
We just looked at several Excel enhancements in Dynamics 365 Business Central:
-
Exporting list analysis data to Excel in pivot mode
-
Editing sales price lists directly in Excel
-
Financial reports with slicers for easier filtering
These features are part of the 2025 Release Wave 1 update, and they can help you work faster and analyze your data more effectively.
