Microsoft | Inventory Item Import in Dynamics 365 Business Central
I want to show you how easy it is to import inventory items into Dynamics 365 Business Central. We’re going to take a look at creating configuration packages then importing the images and we’ll take a look at copilot which allows you to create marketing text based on the information in the item.
Configuration Package
This is my configuration package I’m going to use the import inventory items I’ve got two tables in it, you can see the first one is the item table in that I’ve got a lot of information. I select the fields that I want to include in the import you can see those fields here. There’s dozens and dozens of fields you can choose from my second table has item attributes in it and I want to use this because I want to use Copilot to create marketing text for me. Let’s take a look at that table. This one’s pretty straightforward. What I also want to do is I want to supply some default information for my new items when I add them into the system.
So I’m using this data template here called faucets. Let’s take a look at that this is a configuration template you can see the items that I’ve identified here and one of the things I added to the standard template is to identify the category code for all my new items which in this case are faucets. Once I have the tables identified what I can do is I can create a template for importing just by exporting this to excel.
Let’s take a look at it. Here’s the Excel file that was created by the configuration package and shows information for two tables it’s looking at the information in the system at this point so I’ve got the item table down here and I’ve got the attributes listed here. So how I use this as a template is I’ll get rid of this information here and over here and now I can add information into this template and then import that into Business Central. This is what the completed template looks like with my new information that I’m going to import into Business Central I’ve got the item here. Then I’ve got the item attributes listed right here.
So when it’s time to import the information, I’ll go to import from Excel this is my Excel file right here I’ll just drag and drop it over here once that’s done I’ll import the information then I’ll apply the package my new items have been added into business Central.
Images
Let’s take a look at them these are my new items here these five items were just added let’s take a look at one of them. So I’ve got the item here and the description, scroll down to the fact box I also have the attributes, but I do not have images so the next thing I want to do is import the images it’s easy to do.
I’ll go to the inventory setup and there’s a function here where I can import item pictures it’s looking for zip file. These are my images here I’ve zipped them up into this file and I’ll just drag this over it shows that it’s ready to upload these images. So I’m going to go ahead import the pictures pleated.
Let’s take a look at the items now so I’ve got the items here and they’ve got the pictures attached to them now you can see that here. So the next thing I want to do is I want to create some  marking text with Copilot. So I’m going to create that right here let’s take a look at it.
Copilot Marketing Text
Copilot uses artificial intelligence to look at the item and the attributes to create some marketing text I’ve got options on how this is presented, but what it does is creates a draft and I can go into this draft and either accept it or it can modify it or I can rerun it. You can see here that it’s usually not only the description of the item but also the attributes. This is one of my attributes right here this is another attribute and this is another one. So copilot uses the item information including the attributes to give me a description of this product aand I want this because what I want to do is take these items and the descriptions and the images and upload these to my eCommerce platform. So this is an easy way to get information into business Central I use the configuration package I imported the images for inventory and then I went into co-pilot where I created some nice marketing text to also include with this item foreign.
