This streamlines collaboration and minimizes the overhead of managing multiple resources. Every customer tenant is allotted precisely one OneLake, ensuring consistency and cohesion. It also brings data convergence, aggregating data from various sources into one central location. This unified data repository can be effortlessly accessed and utilized by multiple analytical engines, enhancing efficiency.

The concept of workspaces within a tenant promotes distributed ownership and access policies, enabling different organizational units to function seamlessly. Embracing openness, OneLake is built on Azure Data Lake Storage Gen2, accommodating diverse file types, structured or unstructured. With Fabric data items stored in OneLake’s delta parquet format, the platform ensures compatibility across diverse tasks and roles, ensuring cohesive data integration and utilization.


DirectLake is a new, single, unified data lake connection type for Power BI that allows you to connect directly to OneLake storage. This makes it possible to analyze very large data from your data lake without having to query a Lakehouse endpoint or import or duplicate data into a Power BI dataset. Direct Lake mode can be the ideal choice for analyzing very large datasets and datasets with frequent updates at the data source. It provides users with a centralized, efficient, and collaborative way to store and analyze large volumes of data and make it easier to work with data and improve performance, enabling users to make better data-driven decisions. 

Synapse Analytics
