TMC-BLOG-major-hospitals-adopt-microsoft-azure-to-enhance-research-and-patient-outcome

Hospitals are the key places where patient data is collected at a massive scale. The organization and storage of the data is foundational in conducting cutting-edge research and improving patient outcomes. The current challenge is fragmentation of the collected data due to multiple storage pipelines and ineffective data retrieval. The result is that the data is simply lost in the shuffle and there are gaps making the data useless and unreliable. Thus, it cannot be used for any comprehensive research purposes.

The solution is a high-tech cloud computing system like Microsoft Azure that allows end-to-end precision in data handling and manipulation. It allows effective storage and accurate retrieval with precision-query. It has powerful back-up systems that allows the data to be stored safely and is secured with back-end encryption.

Recently three major hospitals are racing against time to improve their data infrastructure by migrating to Microsoft Azure to conduct life changing research and patient outcome.

UCLA is optimizing Azure

UCLA is part of one of the most comprehensive medical systems and their research programs are world renowned. It’s decision to partner with Microsoft and migrate to Azure services comes with lots of hope and promises. They want to create comprehensive datasets, to be able to do targeted research with speed and accuracy. This migration will allow the data from their hospital to be available to other major hospital systems around the world. They can then use AI and machine learning tools to analyze data to conduct research in a way that has not been done before.

According to a Microsoft’s article, “Our data capabilities with Microsoft Azure will bring more medical discoveries and effective therapies to patients faster,” said Michael Pfeffer, M.D., assistant vice chancellor and chief information officer for UCLA Health Sciences. “The integration of information from structured data, like lab results and medication information, with unstructured data, like documentation, genomics and medical images, creates an incredibly powerful big-data learning platform for discovery.”

John Hopkins uses Microsoft Azure Cloud for their data

John Hopkins has joined forces with Microsoft in a five-year deal to upgrade their system to Azure cloud for their data storage. Their goal is to create targeted treatments using big data analytics. The precision medicine will look at the person’s genetic predispositions, age, sex, and ethnicity to deliver the highest quality of care.

According to a Microsoft’s article, “Johns Hopkins is committed to leading the way in precision medicine, and our relationship with Microsoft will help us achieve that goal,” said Paul B. Rothman, M.D., CEO of JHM and the Frances Watt Baker, M.D., and Lenox D. Baker Jr., M.D., dean of the medical faculty. “Using Azure will improve our ability to develop innovative solutions and treatments for our patients, and we are excited to collaborate with Microsoft to push the boundaries of science and medicine even further.”

Hackensack Meridian Health is relying on Microsoft Azure

Hackensack Meridian Health is one of the largest not-for-profit integrated health care system in New Jersey. It partnered with Microsoft in 2019 to initiate its system migration and organization to Azure. Their goal is to target high quality patient outcomes and conduct research.

According to Hackensack Meridian Health’s article, “We are thrilled to announce our collaboration with Microsoft today, which will further strengthen our culture of innovation,” said Robert C. Garrett, CEO of Hackensack Meridian Health. “Microsoft Azure will ensure our growing network and dedicated team members have the flexibility, efficiency and security they need to focus on what we do best: providing high-quality care to our patients.”
