TMC Releases Free Microsoft Dynamics 30 Day Trial for Microsoft Dynamics GP, NAV, and SL

Technology Management Concepts, announced today the launch of their free 30-day trials of hosted Microsoft Dynamics ERP solutions including Microsoft Dynamics GP, Dynamics NAV, and Dynamics SL. TMC is excited for their prospective customers to have access to the on-demand 30-day trial of the industry-specific Microsoft Dynamics ERP products exclusively in The Cloud. Potential customers can now demo Microsoft Dynamics GP 2013, Dynamics NAV 2013, and Dynamics SL 2011 with a 30-day free ERP cloud trial.

Technology Management Concepts, the leading ERP partner in Southern California, is happy to add the option of the online trial software for their customers, as they understand part of the ERP software research process is to test the software before they purchase it. When a customer visits the TMC website, they will be asked to complete a simple form where they will be able to choose which software they prefer, customize the trial to their company’s needs, as well as receive a quote for what their hosted software would cost them monthly. The trial will then be provisioned by TMC and their free trial company will be up and running online in less than 24 hours. Technology Management Concepts will then guide their customers over the next 30 days with a daily lesson to help them navigate the software trial. TMC also provides customer and technical support if needed.

“A growing trend in the ERP marketplace is the request for trying the software before you buy it. Simply being shown the software in a sales pitch meeting isn’t sufficient anymore. Customers want to let their technical staff try out the software first to make sure they’re comfortable with it, before they invest in the software. TMC provides this option by offering their free 30 day trial of Microsoft Dynamics ERP Software” says TMC Marketing Manager, Brett Hensley.

The 30-day trial allows for an immediate hands-on experience of Dynamics GP 2013, Dynamics NAV 2013, and Dynamics SL 2011. The trials can be set up and tailored towards companies in a variety of industries such as wholesale distribution, non-profit, manufacturing, hospitality/restaurants, entertainment, etc. To get set up for the free trial, visit this page or call 310-559-3982 for more information.

Microsoft Dynamics NAV 2013 Web Client

NAV 2013 Now Available Fully IN THE CLOUD!

nav 2013 web client

TMC is thrilled to now offer their clients the Microsoft Dynamics NAV 2013 Web Client. TMC has already performed implementations and upgrades for NAV 2013, so get your company up to date and online!

The Microsoft Dynamics NAV Web client gives users access to Microsoft Dynamics NAV data over a network, such as the Internet. From a web browser, users can view and modify data from a user-friendly interface that resembles the Microsoft Dynamics NAV Windows client, where the starting point is the Role Center. The Role Center can be customized to users individual needs based on their role, company, and daily tasks. The Microsoft Dynamics NAV 2013 Web client does not replace the Microsoft Dynamics NAV Windows client but complements it by enabling scenarios that are not possible with the Microsoft Dynamics NAV Windows client. For a visual overview of the Microsoft Dynamics NAV Web client, see Touring the RoleTailored Client for Developers.

Deploying the Microsoft Dynamics NAV Web Client

To deploy Microsoft Dynamics NAV 2013 Web client, you install and configure the Microsoft Dynamics NAV Web Server components on a computer that is running Internet Information Services (IIS) and has a connection to a Microsoft Dynamics NAV Server and database. Microsoft Dynamics NAV users can access the Microsoft Dynamics NAV Web client from any supported device that has a connection to the Internet. For a list of supported devices and browsers, see System Requirements for Microsoft Dynamics NAV 2013.

For more information about how to deploy the Microsoft Dynamics NAV Web client, see Deploying the Microsoft Dynamics NAV Web Client.

Developing for the Microsoft Dynamics NAV Web Client

As a developer of Microsoft Dynamics NAV 2013 Web client applications, you will have the same experience as developing Microsoft Dynamics NAV Windows client applications. You use the Microsoft Dynamics NAV Development Environment to create objects, such as pages and reports, and implement the same business logic as you would for the Microsoft Dynamics NAV Windows client. The same page or report that is displayed in the Microsoft Dynamics NAV Windows client can also be displayed in the Microsoft Dynamics NAV Web client.

For more information about how to develop for the Microsoft Dynamics NAV Web client, see Developing for the Microsoft Dynamics NAV Web Client.

Administering Users of Microsoft Dynamics NAV Web Client

Like the Microsoft Dynamics NAV Web client, you control access to the Microsoft Dynamics NAV 2013 Web client and Microsoft Dynamics NAV data by creating user accounts, permission sets, and profiles. You do not have to set up separate user accounts for the Microsoft Dynamics NAV Web client and Microsoft Dynamics NAV Windows client. The permissions that are granted to a specific user account apply to all RoleTailored clients.

For more information about how to manage users of the Microsoft Dynamics NAV Web client, see Administration in RoleTailored Clients.

Advantages of Integrated Cloud Applications

The Risk of Fragmentation with Cloud Silos

Without integration among cloud applications, business users may still be forced to navigate multiple applications and data repositories of data for their everyday activities—slowing down processes and reducing the agility the company needs to grow. Consider the following implications of siloed cloud applications:

  • If multiple cloud applications are implemented, data fragmentation still exists. Overlapping databases must be consolidated and reconciled to create a comprehensive and consistent view. In effect, the on-premise software hairball has simply been transferred to the cloud.
  • Each application has its own style of configuration. User efforts to adapt the software to their needs can be hampered as they try to keep track of multiple methods of configuration.
  • Getting a comprehensive picture of how people are using the software is difficult because multiple applications must be monitored.
  • End-to-end processes are difficult to manage because they must be integrated across multiple applications and databases.

One example is analysis and reporting. To achieve a reliable view of business performance, a company with six cloud providers would face a labor-intensive business intelligence task. It must pull the information from various sources, dump it into spreadsheets, and spend considerable time extracting, consolidating and ensuring integrity of data from multiple applications.

The Advantages of Integrated Cloud Applications

To avoid these limitations, it is essential to have a collection of cloud applications that are integrated around a single codebase and database, and which contain an integrated business process perspective. Characteristics of such a system include:

  • ERP, CRM, HR, ecommerce, warehouse management, project management and customer service applications function atop a shared application stack and database.
  • Business processes easily flow from one application and department to another—from sales quote to order, or from procurement to final vendor payment.
  • A single repository for real-time reporting enables everyone to see a shared view of the business, with no need for an expensive data warehouse.
  • Self-service analytics and reports can easily be customized and extended.
  • The underlying platform can be easily customized to the needs of the business and its industry, and enables the application to evolve as the business changes.

An integrated cloud business suite also improves IT productivity compared to siloed cloud solutions:

  • Expanded awareness: Ease of information access means that everyone can get the information they need without continually making IT requests.
  • Process efficiency: Process automation flows from department to department across applications built to work together, eliminating the need for expensive and error-prone application integration work.
  • Accelerated innovation: Because information and process changes can be implemented quickly, often by users themselves, line of business organizations are able to innovate themselves rather than depend wholly on IT.
  • Business and IT alignment: Data and process automation can be easily delivered when and where it is needed, unfettered by technical limitations.

Licensing for Dynamics GP 2013

Microsoft announced the next release of Dynamics GP 2013 earlier this year, and the excitement has been building steadily.  Most of the early buzz was focused on the development and deployment of the new “Web Client”, a browser-based means of accessing Dynamics GP.  Users will no longer be required to be on the network using the traditional client application (or accessing the traditional client application thru a vpn, Citrix or Terminal Services client), but will now be able to access Dynamics GP 2013 via their web-browser and the new Web Client.

Microsoft has also focused on greatly simplifying the licensing for Dynamics GP as well, reducing the number of options and a la carte items from the current schema.  Going forward, there will be only 5 items on the new Dynamics GP 2013 price list:

The “Starter Pack”.  This is the base of the system and it is required.  The Starter Pack contains all of the core pieces of the Dynamics GP system (General Ledger and Financials, Reports and Budgeting, Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable, Sales Order and Inventory, And Purchase Order Processing).  The Starter Pack will also include unlimited Human Resources and Payroll.  The Starter Pack will also include 3 Full Users to get you started.

The “Extended Pack”.  For those companies that have some specific needs above and beyond the Starter Pack, the Extended Pack is a single license that contains the advanced functionality of Manufacturing, Supply Chain Management, Project Accounting and Field Service, along with the Microsoft Forecaster system for advanced planning and budgeting.

The “Full User” license.  The Starter Pack includes 3 Full User licenses, and additional licenses can be purchased.  Full Users have essentially unlimited access to create and update new records and transactions, and full tights for inquiry and reporting into historic transactions.

The “Limited User” license.  Similar to the Full User license, Limited Users will have full inquiry and reporting capabilities, but they are limited to the Time and Expense capabilities for entering new transactions.  For many employees, these two capabilities (entering timesheet information for the Payroll system, and entering expense reports for the Project Accounting system from the Extended Pack), along with inquiry, will likely be all of the capabilities needed.  Additionally, there will be no GP license needed at all for the direct extraction and reporting for the Dynamics GP data held in the Microsoft SQL Server databases (other than the required SQL Server Client Access License).

The “Configuration Pack”.  Microsoft is combining the capabilities of the current Customization Suite and the Integration Suite into a single license for the Configuration Pack.  This tool Pack will include the tools necessary to both modify the GP system and to connect the GP 2013 system to external data sources and systems.

With these changes to the licensing of Dynamics GP 2013, Microsoft has been able to simplify the licensing model, allowing Customers to focus their time and attention on getting the most out of the GP system and not spending too much time on trying to understand the complexities of licensing ERP software.

TMC and NetSuite – Off to the Cloud!

cloud3We are happy to announce after careful consideration and research, Technology Management Concepts (TMC) has joined forces with NetSuite(NYSE:N), and is adding this ERP package to our current product offerings.

NetSuite founder, Evan Goldberg embraced a “cloud vision” early on, making it a critical part of his initial design for a web-based ERP system.  That decision led NetSuite to focus on three key factors in the new system:  A “Suite” of integrated tools, delivering best-in-class CRM, Financials and eCommerce; an “Integrated” system in which every component communicated with the rest of the system, eliminating manual data re-entry; and it must be “Cloud”, always available from anywhere in the world.  TMC finds that NetSuite delivers on that commitment.

NetSuite focuses on 5 key verticals:  Software Companies, Wholesale Distributors; Manufacturers, Service Companies, and Retail / eCommerce.  NetSuite is offered in over 14 different languages, and supports over 170 of the world’s currencies. TMC will be working together with Netsuite to bring the highest level of Consulting services to these industries.

Over the years, the methods to deploy ERP software has been evolving.  A customer has the option to purchase their solution “On-Premise” or “In The Cloud”. With the addition of NetSuite (In The Cloud) to TMC’s portfolio of Microsoft Dynamics products (Dynamics GP, Dynamics NAV), TMC can provide any client around the world with the power of CHOICE.

Technology Management Concepts has been working closely with Netsuite to develop a strong working relationship beginning the 4th quarter of 2011.  Having completed training in Denver, Colorado in early February, we look forward to building a strong Netsuite practice and standing out among the Netsuite’s partner channel.  Together, TMC along with the  Netsuite Professional Services team, will be providing our customers with first class software and services in the cloud.

NetSuite (NYSE: N) is the world’s #1 cloud ERP solution. NetSuite ERP provides comprehensive, proven financial/ERP capabilities that integrate with your broader back-office, sales and service processes. Since 1998, NetSuite has been enabling businesses to transform their financial performance and processes. Now with over 10,000 organizations of every size across a broad range of industries, NetSuite has proven that it is the best “Cloud” ERP solution available

Technology Management Concepts (TMC) has been a leading VAR in the ERP space since 1987.  They currently specialize in providing worldclass software in services.  They are located in Marina Del Rey, CA.

ERP and the Cloud

Having spent a very enjoyable 4 days at the Microsoft Worldwide Partner Conference in Los Angeles last month, it was essentially impossible to avoid hearing about “The Cloud”.  From the various keynote speeches to the breakout sessions to the ISV expo, “The Cloud” was everywhere.  While it might have been difficult to develop a consensus around the definition of “The Cloud”, it was undoubtedly the most talked about subject.

For many people, it may seem that “The Cloud” is something very new, but the idea of delivering software as a service has been around for some time now.  If you have a Hotmail account, belong to Linked In or have a Facebook page, you have been using “The Cloud” for many years.

With the recent introduction of Office 365, Microsoft’s cloud-based business productivity suite, we are seeing a further move towards the cloud.  With Office 365, new updates, enhancements and additional features cam be rolled out to end-users as soon as they are ready to go, without having to wait to incorporate these new features into the next release of Microsoft Office.  Indeed, the very notion of a “version” of the software, and the attendant activity around its release, goes away altogether.  Simply subscribe to the Office 365 platform, and you will always be using the latest and greatest version of the software, and you will never have to upgrade your system again.

I think basic software services like email accounts are a natural for “The Cloud”, and I suspect that business productivity packages like Microsoft Dynamics CRM will continue to make inroads compared to the traditional on-premise versions.

However, I am still not convinced that ERP systems need to be in “The Cloud”.  Certainly there are advantages to being in the cloud, but there are substantial risks as well.

Benefits

Reduce Capital Expenditures.  Say goodbye to the upfront costs of a new ERP system, just sign your users up for a monthly subscription.  Know your future costs with certainty, but be prepared to expense a not-insignificant amount every month that you own the system.

No more upgrades.  With the service provider responsible for maintain both the physical infrastructure and the software environment, upgrades can occur over an extended period of time, with the newest features and functionality being delivered as soon as they have passed quality control.

Reduce internal IT costs.  With the service provider taking responsibility, the internal IT team can be re-purposed from supporting the ERP system to more productive tasks, like working on Business Intelligence, eCommerce and other value-add activities.

Scalability.  With a Cloud-based approach, companies can easily add and remove user subscriptions as needed, providing greater flexibility than traditional on-premise user-licensing.

Risks

Data security.  Without a doubt, this is the area of greatest concern to any company considering a move to the Cloud for the ERP system.  “Who can access my data” and “How do I know that my data is secure?”  Any legitimate cloud provider will need to have a compelling solution to these questions.

Owning data vs owning a system.  “What happens to my data when I choose to terminate the subscription?”  When a company chooses to upgrade their on-premise system with another on-premise system, the old system can be ‘archived’, retaining the ability to access the old system for data analysis and inquiry purposes.  With a cloud-based system, terminating the subscription will generally allow the company to retain a database full of data and transactions, but without the underlying ERP system, access that data in a meaningful way can be very challenging.

Regulatory environment.  For those companies that are regulated (think of financial services, healthcare industry, human resources), there may be limitations and restrictions as to whether this data can be stored in the cloud, and if so, what safeguards and protections can be put in place to ensure compliance.

Hybrid ERP environments

In an informal poll of CFO’s and Controllers, we found mixed reactions to the idea of moving ERP systems to the Cloud.  While some are willing to embrace a cloud-based ERP system, others saw some significant hurdles.  Most respondents saw great value in moving portions of the ERP system to a cloud-based environment, such as creating and Editing Sales Orders and providing reporting and inquiry tools.  Few, however, such a great need to be able to create and post reversing journal entries and other more mundane accounting entries over the web.  Surely, that adjusting JE can be posted tomorrow morning from the office.

I think that many companies will continue a slow and gradual move the Cloud.  Many systems, such as email, CRM and other business productivity systems are natural candidates for a cloud solution.  I remain unconvinced about the rapid adoption of cloud-based ERP systems.

Microsoft Dynamics GP announces 2 new cloud-based services!

Microsoft has released the first 2 Cloud offerings for Dynamics GP 10.0 and GP 2010.  Within the Dynamics GP Cloud, Payment Services and Commerce Services are now both available for use.  Building on the vision of “Extend the Reach”, these two new services do just that, by bringing some basic cloud services into the Dynamics GP world.
